ABOUT US

Dr. Roy Lockyer graduated in 1949 and worked in Port Arthur for two years before relocating to Dryden. He opened the practice in 1951 and the office was located at 46 Princess Street for many years. He would travel to Sioux Lookout on a bi-weekly basis to provide optometric services. In 1979, Dr. Roy Lockyer was joined in practice by his son Dr. Brian Lockyer. In December 1983, the office was relocated to its present location at 65 King Street. Dr. Roy Lockyer passed away in February 1997 in Victoria, where he had enjoyed many years of retirement with his wife Margaret. In 2015, Dr. Brian Lockyer was pleased to welcome his daughter, Dr. Suzanne Lockyer to the practice. Dr. Suzanne Lockyer opened the Sioux Lookout satellite office in March 2016 to help meet the needs of Sioux Lookout residents, as well as those in the Far North. Between the three generations, the Lockyer family is pleased to have served Dryden and the surrounding communities for over 70 years.

Dr. Brian Lockyer
Doctor of Optometry

Dr. Brian Lockyer was born and raised in Dryden, Ontario. He attended the University of Waterloo for Honours Science and graduated with his Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree in 1979. Dr. Brian Lockyer has served in leadership roles on the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO) for 16 years, including time as president, on the board of directors and on the executive council. He has also been involved in the clinical externship for optometry students for the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry as well as Opticianry students from Georgian College. Dr. Brian Lockyer has served on the Dryden Regional Health Centre (DRHC) Board of Directors, including time as director and chairperson and had been involved in the Dryden Ski Club executive for over 30 years. He enjoys hunting, fishing, cycling and skiing. He and his wife Catherine, have three children and five grandchildren.

Dr. Suzanne Lockyer
Doctor of Optometry

Dr. Suzanne Lockyer was born and raised in Dryden. She obtained her Honours Bachelor of Science from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 2011. She graduated with her Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts in 2015. As part of her training, Dr. Lockyer completed rotations in Chicago, throughout Massachusetts and at a Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Vermont. Dr. Lockyer serves as a Clincal Faculty Member for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). She also volunteers as a board member for the Dryden Public Library, Dryden Regional Health Centre Foundation as well as the Dryden Entertainment Series. You’ll often see her walking her dog Stella.

Dr. Melissa Herrmann
Doctor of Optometry

Dr. Melissa Herrmann grew up in Sunderland, Ontario.  She earned her Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Waterloo in 2016.  She graduated with her Doctor of Optometry from Salus University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2020.  Dr. Herrmann’s training included rotations at the University of Maryland Eye Associates and The Eye Institute’s Pediatric and Binocular Vision Service, as well as clinics throughout Ontario, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.    Dr. Herrmann enjoys hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
